Patients in New Jersey who would like to improve their vision and not rely on glasses should schedule LASIK/PRK soon.
Do your eyelids droop lower than they used to? Many people despise their sagging upper eyelids because they tend to make the face look more tired and prematurely older. By elevating the upper eyelids, cosmetic treatments like blepharoplasty (AKA eyelid surgery) have been immensely popular for rejuvenating the eyes.
You may not be interested in cosmetic surgery, though. That is why InVision Eye Care Specialists is pleased to now offer Upneeq, a medicated eye drop proven to raise the position of the eyelid. This exciting new treatment safely improves your appearance as well as your field of vision.
While some people are born with blepharoptosis (drooping eyelids), most people acquire it with age. In these cases, it is usually the consequence of the Muller’s muscle, an involuntary muscle tasked with elevating the upper eyelid, which weakens or becomes less effective over time.
Upneeq is an oxymetazoline hydrochloride solution that you carefully self-administer once per day with a single drop in each eye. The solution triggers the Muller’s muscle to contract, which in turn causes the upper eyelid to elevate. The results are temporary, so you will need to continue using the drops daily to keep your eyelids elevated.
Upneeq is the only FDA-approved eye drop treatment for elevating the eyelids. Although results may vary, most patients show improvement with Upneeq. The average patient sees his or her eyebrow raise by about 1 millimeter following treatment. The drop works quickly, too: some patients notice their eyelids raise in as little as five minutes.
Upneeq was proven safe and effective in clinical trials. According to the data, about 84% of patients see less droopiness after using the drops, with 74% of patients seeing more than 50% improvement. Moreover, 88% of patients increase their field of vision after taking Upneeq because the eyelids cover less of the eye.
Please note that Upneeq is not effective on patients with congenital blepharoptosis. If you were born with droopy eyelids, please speak to your doctor about alternative (i.e. surgical) treatments.
The team at InVision Eye Care Specialists is excited to provide Upneeq to patients who could benefit cosmetically from these eye drops. To meet with a doctor to determine whether you are a good candidate for this non-invasive treatment, please schedule a consultation at your convenience by filling out our online form or calling (732) 210-0140.
