ReSTOR New Jersey
ReSTOR New Jersey lens implant specialist Dr Ed Hedaya now offers the ReSTOR implant for those who do not qualify for LASIK or other types of laser eye surgery. Dr Hedaya has helped many patients from New Jersey and South Jersey achieve improved vision.
Not all people are good candidates for Laser Vision Correction. Some have too high a degree of correction or abnormal corneas, and others have cataracts. Laser Vision Correction does not best suit these individuals. Yet these people too can have their dependence on glasses or contacts decreased by using modern techniques with a high degree of safety to improve their distance, as well as near vision.
Thanks to medical and surgical advancements in recent years, cataract & clear lens surgery has become one of the gentlest medical procedures performed today. It can be used to reduce nearsightedness, farsightedness, as well as reading glasses dependence. Dr. Hedaya accomplishes the restoration of precious eyesight every week. He has performed thousands of these types of procedures.
Better than ever, cataract and clear lens surgery has undergone tremendous recent technological advances. This year, millions of patients will choose to have both their vision and their lifestyles restored, thanks to this life-changing medical procedure.
The good news is if you’ve encountered cataracts or discovered you are not a candidate for laser vision correction surgery, intraocular lens technology (IOL) has taken a giant leap forward. No longer is the objective simply to restore your distance vision with a mono-focal IOL. Today, the goal is to enhance your vision with an IOL that may provide you with a full range of vision, thus minimizing your dependence on glasses, including reading glasses or bifocals.
Once you understand what a cataract is, how it will be removed, and how your vision may be improved with the AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL, your concern about your diagnosis could actually turn into excitement.
How Cataracts Develop
A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens inside your eye. This lens, located behind the iris (or colored part of the eye) works just like the lens of a camera–focusing light images on the retina, which sends the images to your brain.
The human lens, made mostly of protein and water, can become clouded – so clouded it keeps light and images from reaching the retina.
Eye injury, certain diseases, or even some medications can cause the clouding. But, in over 90% of cases, clouding is caused by the aging process. A cataract is not a “film” over the eye, and neither diet nor lasers will make it go away. The best way to treat a cataract is to remove the old, clouded lens and provide a replacement. A cataract can be the reason sharp images become blurred, bright colors become dull, or seeing at night is more difficult. It may also be why the reading glasses or bifocals that used to help you read, or do other simple tasks, no longer seem to help. Unfortunately, cataracts can’t be prevented, but removing the cataract and replacing it with an artificial lens can restore your vision and in many ways, significantly improve your quality of life. The time to have your cataracts removed is when the quality of your vision begins to put limits on your activities and enjoyment of life.

"I am learning more every day! This is possible thanks to my new crystalens®. To start with, about three years ago I had cataract surgery performed on my left eye (not by Dr. Hedaya). To make a very long story short, with the help of Dr. Hedaya, my vision improved but was never perfect through no fault of his.
When I needed the cataract in my right eye removed, Dr. Hedaya suggested the new crystalens. From the first evening after the surgery I have gotten perception back (which I thought impossible) and the clarity is so marvelous. I would have never believed it. Only one week since surgery and I am starting to be able to see little mid and close. If you are thinking of this, it was worth every penny to me! And just imaging I only have one good lens! If I had both like this I can not even imagine how great it would be! Vision being a gift to us from God if we can restore it to the best of medical knowledge. Price should not be an object. Thanks again to a great and caring staff and doctors!"

"In January 2007, I approached my first cataract procedure (right eye) with extreme trepidation since I have a phobia, from childhood, regarding anything related to my eyes.
Both the pre-op and operating room, I was a total bundle of nerves. Dr. Hedaya did his best to relax me with his stand up comic routine, all to no avail. Then he told me to look up and that's all I remember about the surgical procedure. I went home and within two hours from the time I entered the O.R., I had no pain whatsoever. My fear of the procedure was eliminated. Within two days, I was absolutely looking forward to having the other cataract surgery completed ASAP.
After completion of the second procedure, I can now read a newspaper, I can now drive, I can now use my computer, all WITHOUT the use of glasses. Dr. Hedaya, thank you for performing this miracle for me. You have changed my life for the positive."

"I never thought I'd be able to see well as I do. Took 20 years off my sight, 10 years off my looks, and added 30 years to my self confidence and self esteem."

What Is Presbyopia?
When your eyes were young, your natural lens was both transparent and flexible. Because of this, your vision was most likely stable until you reached your forties. Around that time, you may have noticed that you had to hold a menu or a book farther and farther away to read it. Many people end up wearing a pair of reading glasses or bifocals to compensate for this aging of the eye. Others may use mono vision in contact lenses to try and circumvent this difficulty. This condition of not begin able to focus up-close with ones distance prescription is called “presbyopia” and eventually affects everyone, including those who are nearsighted, farsighted, have cataracts, or had perfect vision most of their life.
The AcrySof® Family of Lenses
Intraocular lenses were first introduced in 1949 and are available today in all kinds of shapes, sizes, and lens materials. AcrySof® IOLs are made of the first foldable material developed exclusively for use in the eye. With more than 21 million lenses implanted, the AcrySof® lens is the most commonly used IOL in the world, since they became available in 1994. Its popularity is largely due to their ability to provide excellent visual results and a high level of patient satisfaction.
At Last! An Opportunity For Visual Freedom
For most patients over the age of 45, life without reading glasses or bifocals is something they either experienced before presbyopia or they just dreamed about for most of their lives. But today, the AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL is turning those dreams into reality with its revolutionary lens technology, which is designed to allow patients to see clearly at all distances without bifocals or reading glasses. The AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL is now available and delivers a high level of glasses-free vision for cataract patients.
In the clinical study, 80% of patients receiving the AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL reported that they never wear glasses for any activities. With the AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL they can read a book, work on the computer, and drive a car – day or night – and play golf or tennis with an increased freedom from glasses. In fact, patients were so pleased with their vision, nearly 94% of patients said they would have the AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL implanted again, if given the choice.
The Safest and Most Successful Procedure Performed Today
Cataract (or clear lens) surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, and usually requires just a few hours of your time from start to finish. Your eye will be treated with anesthetic prior to the procedure so you’ll feel little, if any, discomfort. First, a tiny self-sealing incision will be made in the eye allowing your surgeon to use a small instrument (about the size of a pen tip) to break up or wash away the human lens. Once the cataractous or clear lens is removed, the AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL will be inserted through the same tiny incision and set into its permanent position.
What To Expect After The Procedure
After the procedure, you’ll rest for a short while before you go home. Your doctor will typically examine your eye within 24 hours. You’ll need to use prescription eye drops to guard against infection and help your eye heal. For a few days, you may need to wear a protective shield, especially at night to prevent you from rubbing your eye. Everyone heals somewhat differently, but most patients see well enough to return to most of their routine activities the day after surgery. Once both eyes have been treated, you will fully appreciate the AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL.
Ask Your Doctor If The AcrySof® IOL Is Right For You
As with any surgical procedure there are inherent risks, and your results cannot be guaranteed. Your doctor will provide you with more detailed information about the potential risks and benefits to help decide whether the AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL surgery is right for you.
What People Say About Clear Lens & Cataract Surgery
"It started in my early 40's. First, I had trouble reading and within a few years I had trouble seeing far or near without glasses. Every year it seemed to be getting worse. My son had Laser Vision Correction, so when I was told I was not a candidate, I got depressed. Then I saw Dr. Hedaya. He explained clear lens surgery to me. Everything went well. It's great to see well again without glasses." Arthur T.
"I have always needed glasses my whole life. When Dr. Hedaya told me I could see without glasses, I laughed. My vision was so bad that if I didn't remember where I put my glasses down I was in very big trouble. I was blind without my thick glasses. I had to call my son to help me find them. I was shocked the very next day after surgery when I could see 20/20 without glasses! Thank you, Dr. Hedaya for changing my life." Louis C.
"My father had just had cataract surgery last year by Dr. Hedaya. He no longer wears glasses to drive. When I found out I was not a candidate for Laser Vision Correction because I was too farsighted, I decided to have clear lens surgery. Now, I wake up every day and see the world without my glasses. Simple daily things like taking a shower & shaving are a pleasure. I highly recommend this surgery." David R.
