Sight is our most precious sense. People who need their glasses to read the alarm clock each morning, know all too well the frustration of total dependency on glasses and contact lenses. However, because sight is precious, the decision to have surgery must be made only after careful consideration and education. Dr. Hedaya and his staff are dedicated to providing our patients with the best available refractive surgery care - the best techniques, technology, facilities, and most importantly, the best doctors and staff.
Refractive surgery is a family of surgical procedures designed to reduce or eliminate common vision abnormalities. Refractive surgery was revolutionized by the invention of the Excimer laser in the early 1980's and has been through numerous clinical trials to determine its safety and effectiveness. It is now commonly used to treat myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. At this time, there are Excimer laser machines that, with a combination of masks and computer controls, can reliably treat myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia. These procedures help alter the way the light is focused on the retina by using precise surgical techniques to reshape the front surface of the eye called the cornea. Refractive surgery has given millions of people the freedom to pursue more active lifestyles.
