Crystalens New Jersey

Intraocular Lens IOL
Dr. Edward Hedaya is a well known New Jersey Crystalens specialist. In the paragraphs below he describes the new technology behind the Crystalens IOL and how it has helped many New Jersey and Ocean County patients regain their ability to read without glasses.

Crystalens is a revolutionary new breakthrough in vision enhancement. It is the first and only intraocular lens (IOL) replacement that focuses like the eye's natural lens, allowing for continuous vision up close, far away and all distances in between. By using the eye's muscle to move the lens backwards and forwards naturally in response to the brain's desire to see at different distances, Crystalens, manufactured by Eyeonics, enables the eye to focus continuously and seamlessly through a range of distances. Patients experience the same vision they had when they were younger, for most without the inconvenience of corrective lenses. However, it is important to note that not everyone will gain 20/20 vision at all distances after this procedure. It is also important to point out that even after having this procedure, you still may not be able to read or focus on objects in low light. As we get older, we lose our ability to focus on objects under these conditions. Our health and the health of our eyes will also determine the outcome of any type of refractive surgery.

The Procedure:

The Crystalens implant procedure is a safe and proven refractive technique performed in an outpatient surgical facility. The procedure lasts about 20 minutes and is pain free. The Crystalens implant is inserted in place of the original lens. A small incision allows for quick healing and no stitches are required.

"I am learning more every day! This is possible thanks to my new crystalens®. To start with, about three years ago I had cataract surgery performed on my left eye (not by Dr. Hedaya). To make a very long story short, with the help of Dr. Hedaya, my vision improved but was never perfect through no fault of his.

When I needed the cataract in my right eye removed, Dr. Hedaya suggested the new crystalens. From the first evening after the surgery I have gotten perception back (which I thought impossible) and the clarity is so marvelous. I would have never believed it. Only one week since surgery and I am starting to be able to see little mid and close. If you are thinking of this, it was worth every penny to me! And just imaging I only have one good lens! If I had both like this I can not even imagine how great it would be! Vision being a gift to us from God if we can restore it to the best of medical knowledge. Price should not be an object. Thanks again to a great and caring staff and doctors!"

Mrs. Gail de la C.

"In January 2007, I approached my first cataract procedure (right eye) with extreme trepidation since I have a phobia, from childhood, regarding anything related to my eyes.

Both the pre-op and operating room, I was a total bundle of nerves. Dr. Hedaya did his best to relax me with his stand up comic routine, all to no avail. Then he told me to look up and that's all I remember about the surgical procedure. I went home and within two hours from the time I entered the O.R., I had no pain whatsoever. My fear of the procedure was eliminated. Within two days, I was absolutely looking forward to having the other cataract surgery completed ASAP.

After completion of the second procedure, I can now read a newspaper, I can now drive, I can now use my computer, all WITHOUT the use of glasses. Dr. Hedaya, thank you for performing this miracle for me. You have changed my life for the positive."

Lawrence S.

"I never thought I'd be able to see well as I do. Took 20 years off my sight, 10 years off my looks, and added 30 years to my self confidence and self esteem."

Sherry B.

One eye or two?

The Crystalens procedure is normally performed first in the dominant eye.The surgeon will wait two weeks before inserting the second implant to assure the proper balance for reading and distance vision is achieved with both eyes.

Who is a candidate?

The Crystalens is ideally suited for patients who want to not only restore clarity in their vision but also restore their near, intermediate and distance vision. Almost anyone who has cataracts is a candidate for the Crystalens procedure if they are healthy and do not have any serious eye diseases. You may be a candidate even if you have had previous refractive surgery. The best way to find out if you are a candidate for this procedure is to have a consultation with our center. Please call 732-901-6111 to schedule your consultation.
